She is of Norwegian, Irish, English, and Scottish descent.

Her paternal grandfather, Gunnar Wiig, emigrated from Norway to the US as a child.

She has an older brother named Erik.

She moved with her family to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the age of three, and later to Rochester, New York.

She attended the University of Arizona as an art student and took her first acting class as an elective.
